Writing the Findings and Discussion Section in the Dissertation

The findings and discussion sections should be the most interesting part of your dissertation paper. Here, you have the free hand to put in your own words what you have discovered based on the available data that you have at your disposal. You are expected to write what you have done and not what others are saying about your work. 

There are several approaches to going about writing the two sections of this paper under discussion; we shall take a summary of what is expected from students that want to score higher grades which will go all the way to impact on their final CGPA.

Get your data

Before you write the first word; a lot of work must have gone into the process of information gathering. When you use software programming, you know what you are going to include in your paper. Create an outline of your work; it will make your work organized. All the large amount of data that you have gathered can be reduced to a manageable level through the use of the software. 

Introduce your findings

This can take up to about 40% of your total word count. You are expected to bring out the following under your introduction:

  • Let the reader know the purpose of your paper from the onset. It is important that you carry your readers along right from the word go.
  • State a brief description of how you intended to achieve the expected results. Your style should be stated from the onset and must be followed all through the paper.
  • You are expected to place your research findings in the context. This is important because you are not expected to include your own personal views but the very one that is based on your research findings.
  • You need to include an Appendix. This will enable the reader to verify the content of your paper. If you want to add legit to your work, then you must include an appendix to your work. This will enable interested readers to cross-check the facts in case they are in doubt.

When you are clear about the points stated above; it will give your readers the opportunity of having a clearer picture of what they are expected to get through your paper.

It will be of advantage if you go into the archives and take a look at previous works in the school to know the exact format that is required by the school.

You must keep in mind to describe, synthesize, and analyze models and know how best to approach any of them in your work. It is strongly advised that you create an outline before you begin your paper.
